New York State Directory of Housing Options for Survivors of Trafficking
Dedicated housing for survivors of human trafficking is scarce.
Human trafficking is the second fastest growing crime in the world and, according to the International Labour Organization, is estimated to be a $150 billion industry. New York State is not immune to this crime. In 2023, the National Human Trafficking Hotline received reports of 16,999 victims and survivors of human trafficking, with 845 of these cases coming from the state of New York.
As human trafficking continues to grow, the need for safe housing for survivors has become increasingly urgent. Without access to stable housing, survivors are vulnerable to homelessness, revictimization and increased difficulty accessing critical medical, mental health and legal support. Housing is not just a place to stay —it’s essential for survivors’ recovery and ability to rebuild their lives.
Dedicated housing is safe housing specifically designed to meet the unique needs of human trafficking survivors. This directory was compiled via desk research and a questionnaire sent to each organization, most of which responded. Additionally, to ensure accuracy, each organization was contacted by phone for clarification. We aim to update this directory every year.
